Thomas J. Donohue, CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement on Presidential Transition:

“In eight days, President-Elect Biden will take office in the midst of a raging pandemic and an economic downturn that has left 10 million Americans out of work. These challenges require the full attention of the new administration and Congress, and a smooth transition of power.

“The President’s conduct last week was absolutely unacceptable and completely inexcusable. By his words and actions, he has undermined our democratic institutions and ideals. It is for the vice president, the cabinet, and Congress to decide whether or not to invoke the 25th amendment or pursue impeachment or other measures—and we trust them to use those tools judiciously, if needed, to ensure our nation’s well-being and security.

“We call on all elected officials across the country and at every level of government to promote calm in their communities and encourage a peaceful transition of power. And we pledge to work with our network of state and local chambers, our members and partners, and our government to eradicate the pandemic, reignite our economy, restore American leadership at home and abroad, and turn the page on this dark chapter in our history.”
